Abstract

The authors try to set out how they envisage driver training and testing will be developed by the Driving Standards Agency, with special reference to novice drivers. The policy packages that they envisage are set out on how the DSA intends to improve safety by raising standards. The Driving Standards Agency has adopted a road safety target which is to reduce the numbers of young drivers (17-24 years) killed and seriously injured by 40% (from their 1994-98 average) by 2010. This nests within the main target of the UK Government's Road Safety Strategy.
