Abstract

This short article describes the Alcatel system for fleet management. It is based on a modular system configuration in which the data and voice communications equipment in the vehicle is linked via a radio interface to an evaluation system at the central control unit. Brief details of the system architecture are provided. The services which can be provided over the system are summarized. These include: a) fleet management; b) vehicle location; c) personal route guidance; d) breakdown and emergency call service; and e) automatic tariff payment.
