Abstract

While looking at the problem of updating an online simulation by using data from permanent traffic detectors, it turns out to be a problem of updating an OD matrix first - for simulations operated by an OD matrix. Following this, a three phase investigation method has been developed which deals with the problem of identifying the optimal number of detectors for an OD matrix estimation in the first phase, an evaluation of this detector set in a simulation of expected events (e.g. changes in traffic demand) in the second phase, and a final evaluation using data from a (long-term) data collection from the identified detectors in the third phase. The following paper mainly deals with the methodology and expected results of the first phase. For the covering abstract see ITRD E114174.
