Abstract

This preliminary research project shows that the present day contribution (vehicle and fuel tax) of the transport sector to the financial costs of infrastructure (investment costs as well as maintenance) is far too low in the Netherlands. According to a reasonable scenario for cost allocation the inland tariffs for goods transport should be at least 10% higher. However, due to lower average tariffs in international transport the increase should be even more substantial.
