Abstract

The transport of the disabled who are not able to drive by themselves is regulated in Dutch legislation, in such a way that subsidy is given. At the introduction of the law the local communities can choose for two options: individual or collective transport. Mostly opted for a collective transport system, but the disabled themselves are not happy with that choice. In two municipalities an inquiry and a diary study were held, and the results show a preference for the individual transport systems. In the individual system compensation is dependent on income and the trips. In most cases the compensation in the costs is considered to be too low, and should be modified.
