Abstract

From a study on literature, inaccuracies in traffic counts and daily flow patterns the author tries to derive some systematic trends. It seems that weather conditions are the most important factor influencing cycle intensities. Furthermore opening times of schools, the duration of daylight and the character of the cycle paths (recreational) or utilitarian) play a role. Cycle traffic can quite accurately be measured by mechanical counts; mopeds and platoons cause problems.
