Abstract
Based on raw traffic counts, collected at a number of detecting stations along the Dutch highwaysystem an attempt is made to identify groups of detectors with identical traffic rate distributions per unit time. It was found, that three to four groups could be distinguished with different group centroids. Characteristics such as truck percentage and road way capacity proved to be highly correlated with groupmembership.
