Abstract

Advanced Metropolitan Transport Management requires the development and deployment of several elements in a coordinated manner including traffic management, traveler information, congestion charging, transit management, and parking management systems, as well as mobility management and provision of pedestrian and bicycle facilities. The objective is to deploy these in a structured and complementary manner so that maximum benefit, effectiveness, and fairness can be achieved to improve conditions for the entire transportation system. Additionally focus needs to be placed on key sub-elements/activities including planning, policy/legal issues, data collection, communications infrastructure, back-office operations, maintenance, publicoutreach and awareness, benefits reporting, and data management.
