Abstract

Since February 1999, travellers in The Netherlands have been able to make the journey between the Underground station Kralingse Zoom in Rotterdam and the business park Rivium in Capelle a/d IJssel using a people-mover: the ParkShuttle. The people-mover system consists of three automated, guided vehicles (each with a maximum capacity of 12 persons) that shuttle via separate infrastructure. This is a pilot project of limited duration for which it is now time (on the basis of an evaluation of this system) to determine what its future operational potential will be. The Transport Research Centre (AVV) of the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management in the Netherlands has conducted a study to establish the users' appreciation of the Park Shuttle. This paper reports on the results and findings of this study.
