Abstract

The Association of European Metropolitan Transport Authorities was created in 1998 to form a venue for exchange of information and good practices between the public authorities responsible for public transport in the main European cities. It now brings together 23 organisations in charge of planning, co-ordinating and seeing to the financial balance of public transport for more than 60 million European city dwellers. This paper is based on a survey of the missions and organisation of public transport authorities (PTAs) of the large European cities. It is mostly based on data collected by EMTA Members.
