Abstract

Deaths caused by road traffic accidents in Japan have steadily decreased for 9 years since 1971. In 1979 the figure was 8461 deaths which was virtually one half of the 1970 peak of over 16000 deaths. The Japanese government intends in 1980 to reinforce traffic safety counter-measures to achieve a further reduction in the number of deaths caused by traffic.
