Abstract

A strict compliance to the concept of a sustainably safe traffic system can bring the number of accidents down with 60 to 80%. This would lead to huge savings in direct and indirect accident costs. These costs now amount to ca. 2% of the gross domestic product. The estimated investment shows to be cost-effective from a societal point of view. The investments could be covered for a large part from the existing budgets for investment and maintenance. (Author/publisher)
