Abstract

It is stated that the most viable passive restraint is the air bag. It inherently offers convenience and reliability characteristics which will appeal to the general public. Active restraints, such as the adjustable head restraint, ignition-interlock and lap/shoulder belt have consistently shown by their usage figures that they are unacceptable to the public.
