Abstract

Recently, the increase of monitoring cameras to grasp environment of road in detail causes the number of switching times of several monitoring screens to increase. Now, to enable operators to efficiently grasp traffic status from images supplied by multiple monitoring cameras, a technology for simultaneous display of a wide monitoring area has been awaited. If any abnormal traffic condition occurs within the monitoring area, its location must be made promptly known to the operators. This paper proposes a wide-area road monitoring system using three-dimensional (3D) computer graphics, which efficiently shows to operators the traffic status within an entire monitoring area. The proposed system presents the entire monitoring area in the form of a 3D information space integrated as computer graphics and various traffic information provided by respective monitoring cameras.
