Abstract

The extent to which the relative air speed experienced by a model in a wind tunnel is increased by the blocking effect of the model can be estimated by several different methods. Of these, the method chosen for use in the MIRA wind tunnels is relatively simple but has not been fully justified in theory. A series of tests has been carried out to determine experimentally the validity of this and other methods of blockage correction when applied to body shape as bluff as those used on most road vehicles.
