Abstract

Traffic problems surrounding shopping activities are increasing. Insight in mode choice behaviour of shoppers is necessary to tackle these problems. Especially shopping behaviour is characterized by a more conscious choice process of the traveler regarding the mode choice. Non-maintenance shopping activities are dominated by use of car and bike. Public transport predominantly plays a part when visiting town centres and town subareas. Considering the difference between the choice process for 'maintenance shopping activities' and 'non-maintenance shopping activities', it is essential to handle this distinction for a more fundamental follow-up analysis.
