Abstract

On the basis of results of field experiments carried out in the past few years on behalf of the Federal Office of the Environment, it has been established which external noises are emitted by vehicles in traffic today, and how these emissions will be changed in the future by employing more stringent noise levels during type approval testing. Since significant reductions can only be expected in the case of trucks, additional measures must be introduced. These additional possibilities are discussed.
