Abstract

The advanced vehicle safety systems being developed today rely on accurate sensor readings. When sensor data from multiple vehicles in an area is gathered and fused (probe processing), the result can enhance safety systems' ability to avoid crashes and minimize their effects. Getting this data to and from vehicles is an important future application of mobile wireless data communications. Enabling safety applications like probe processing and automatic crash notification (ACN) involves establishing a stable wireless mobile data messaging environment. This environment including the economic and technological steps needed to make effective wireless mobile data communications possible is discussed. For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653.
