Abstract

This paper presents a communication protocol of traffic signal control interfaces for Wireless Interface Signal control system for Dynamic and Optimal Management (WISDOM). The WISDOM has been developed in Korea as a cooperative vehicle highway system with individual vehicle information consisted of a multi-functional system design for real-time vehicle adaptive control through the dedicated short range communication (DSRC). The system functional architecture with traffic signal application interfaces is demonstrated in this study for the development of new traffic signal control strategies including bus priority algorithm, travel time based algorithm, cycle free algorithm, emergency vehicle pre-emption algorithm, and dynamic dilemma zone algorithm.
