In the series of articles at hand the problems of the use of filtered (yellow) incandescent light or unfiltered (white) light are approached from different angles. In the summer of 1971 approximately 15% of the cars in the netherlands were fitted with yellow headlamps. There is reason to believe that the presence of yellow headlamps is determined by the equipment supplied by the manufacturer rather than the personal preference of the owner of the vehicle. The filtering of the blue light radiated by the incandescent lamp with the purpose of effecting a yellow light results in a light loss of some 15%.
