Abstract

Most people living in a woonerf do agree with the main purpose that the living environment is mainly an area for pedestrians and children and that traffic should be restrained. Those people consider the concept of the woonerf as such a success. On the integration of traffic and in particular if footways are wanted or not the meanings are divided. There is a difference in ideas between older reconstructed areas and new built woonerven. A speed limit of 20 km/h is wanted in woonerven. This report is an evaluation of experiences in 14 Dutch cities with woonerven and reconstructed residential areas.
