Abstract

This report is a synthesis of research findings and current practices in the design, selection and application of rumble strips at work zones. The information presented here is based on a review of research reports and work zone manuals from a selection of state and local highway agencies, discussions with highway officials, and field observations of a selection of highway construction projects. The report presents an assessment of the state-of-the-art-practice and makes recommendations for further research and inclusions in the future revisions of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
