Abstract

City bus operators suffer elevated health risks and striking levels of absenteeism and medical disability that may be related to occupational stress. This article provides a critical overview of findings on urban bus drivers' health status, paying particular attentionto aspects of the physical and psychosocial job environment that may cause ill health. Methodological shortcomings in the research are discussed and preliminary ideas for improvement are proposed.
