Abstract

As presented last time at the 6th ITS World Congress, several Japanese companies have, over the last three years from 1996, developed a map data format (CD-ROM/DVD-ROM) to be used for car navigation systems. DENSO has been actively participating in this development and released such a product at an early stage. DENSO and other several companies developed a DVD car navigation system using KIWI ver 1.21, which was decided in March of 1999. This product is for the Japanese market. The performance and the functions were good, as compared to the conventional system using the original format. Some items have been added such as index data for EU/US to the KIWI ver 1.21 and established KIWI ver 1.22 in May of 2000. This paper includes an explanation of KIWI ver 1.22.
