Abstract

Measuring of driver response to unexpected "do not enter" signs at the University of California simulation laboratory. Red and white signs produced earlier and more correct responses than conventional black and white signs. Several styles of ,pavement marking arrows placed on ramps 80 tha t wrong-way dri vers approach from the point end were also studiedo Driver response seemed to indicate that these arrows are not satisfactory alerting devices.
