Contributions by Austria, Australia, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Federal Republic of Germany, Finland, France, German Democratic Republic, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the USSR were presented on: general problems such as the effects of energy saving, environmental issues and financial restrictions on mobility and modal split, urban planning and transport policy; urban road planning, administrative and legal procedures including public participation, multicriteria analysis to aid decision-making; urban road design, principles for major (including motorways) and minor roads, provisions for traffic during construction, design principles for residential roads, environment and safety aspects; traffic management, methods of control, signing, information and communication, maintenance and implementation of traffic control systems including microprocessor controls and use of radar.
