Abstract

The problem of young, novice drivers' overrepresentation in traffic accidents is still unsolved. A large amount of research has been carried out within the field of young novice drivers and considerable knowledge of why they are at higher risk has been accumulated. The problem is complicated and includes several psychological, social, educational and other processes. The purpose of this publication is to give a presentation of the state of the art when it comes to factors influencing young drivers' behaviour and accident involvement and to present a number of suggestions about how to reduce these problems by means of different strategies of driver training. This report is also available in Swedish (VTI Rapport 409, see C 11758 S). (A)
