Abstract

In a sample of suburban male drivers aged 16 to 44, accidents and violations were most numerous at age 20. Annual mileage rose steadily from 16 to 20, but even after correcting from exposure, the excess of actual over expected crashes and tickets was greatest at ages 18 to 20. The excess was highest for those young drivers between 18 and 22 with limited mileage.
