Abstract

As is well known soil conditions in the western part of Holland give to problems in road construction because of the rather unstable sub-soil. In view of the ever-growing need for motorways the question arises in how far it is economically feasible to use a construction entirely founded on piles. Various problems concerning the appearance of this type of construction as well as possible traffic engineering aspects of such a solution are examined. A detailed description of the design and the proposed method of construction is given.
