Abstract
The existing combined road /railtransport offers only good opportunities for high density flows of goods over long distances. Therefore a road /railtransportation system for a more dispersed pattern of goods'distribution is developed in this study, whereby the main issue is to eliminate the need for shuntingoperations within the railtransport. By means of empirical data the costeffectiveness of the developed system as a useful alternative for roadtransport is examined.
