Abstract

This paper supports the thesis that an economic assessment of the consequences of road accidents should be used to pursue the following two goals (1) to provide data to improve the evaluation criteria for road safety policy measures, and (2) to provide data to revise the traditional form of national product calculations. The alternative concept is based on the costs of accident damage that can be measured and those that can not be measured.
