The previous history of the new German Road Traffic Regulations, in the broad sense, is traced back to the coming- into- being of the road traffic right and, in the narrow sense, back to the releasing resolutions of the German Traffic Safety Conferences. A broad space is devoted to the effect of international efforts made since 1963, to standardize the traffic regulations. Waiting for the results of international negotiations has delayed the re-codification on the German road traffic law, however, the Federal Republic of Germany is among the first countries where the new international regulations have been integrated in the national legislation.
