Abstract

The full scale testing of two types of median barrier is described. These barriers were the steel box beam barrier developed by New York and the concrete barrier developed by New Jersey. The authors conclude that both barrier designs perform effectively on flat, paved medians. The box beam barrier is suitable for medians more than 10 feet wide while the concrete barrier is suitable for narrow medians.
