Govert Schermers, ME, is a researcher and project manager and specializes in the fields of, among others, the safe system approach (and in particular road safety management capacity reviews), road design, highways, 80 and 60 km/h limit roads, and safe roadsides. He is also a certified road safety auditor.

Govert has participated in several national and international technical working groups including those of CROW (NL) and is a current member of the IRAP Global Technical Committee, the FERSI Infrastructure Working Group, and the Trendline Key Expert Group on infrastructure. In his time at SWOV he has had a coordinating and participating role in various international projects including RiPCORD-Iserest, SafetyNet, RISMET, EUSight, SafetyCube, PROGReSS and SaferAfrica. He also conducted other research projects in Africa, commissioned by organisations such as GIZ, OIC and the WorldBank. 

Govert Schermers qualified as a Mechanical Engineer at the Technical University of Tswane (South Africa) and has since completed various university and other studies in the fields of traffic engineering, geometric design and traffic modelling.
