Published: Report User-centred design for type approval of AD(A)S

Commissioned by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, SWOV investigated whether and how Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) systems and Automated Driving Systems(ADS) for self-driving vehicles are based on the so-called UCD approach: the User-Centred Design, in which human factors are central for safe interaction with the automated systems.

SWOV also investigated how the stakeholders in this sector (mainly OEMs - Original equipment manufacturers) view a type approval system based on auditing the design and production process. For the acceptance of such a type approval system, it is important that its added value is clear to all parties.

Listen to SWOV researcher Maartje de Goede speak speak about the main findings of this research (English spoken).
