On 2 May 2017, Statistics Netherlands announced: in 2016 the number of road deaths in the Netherlands reached a total of 629.

Manifesto: ‘Make road safety a national priority’

A collaboration of 32 organisations in the Netherlands called on Dutch Parliament and the future Government to make road safety a national priority. In recent months the members of the collaboration have worked on a road safety manifesto which today was presented to the political community.
New ETSC report: reducing deaths in single vehicle crashes

A third of road deaths in the EU happen in single vehicle crashes: crashes in which the driver/rider of the vehicle and/or passengers are killed, but no other road users are involved. In the past 10 years around 100,000 road deaths occurred in the EU and more than 60% of were on rural roads.
SafetyCube progress of activities concerning serious road injuries

The EU project SafetyCube is developing a Decision Support System (DSS) that is to provide insight in the causes of road traffic crashes and support in the identification of the most cost-effective measures for the most important road safety problems.
Strong action necessary to reduce road deaths and serious injuries

ETSC, in which SWOV’s Henk Stipdonk is also active, published a press release stating that around 25,500 people died on European roads in 2016. This means that in 2016 road deaths on European roads decreased by only 2%.
Article published: A human factors perspective on automated driving

The scientific article A human factors perspective on automated driving has recently been published in the journal Theoretical Issues in Ergonomics Science. Among the authors of the article is SWOV’s scientific advisor Marjan Hagenzieker.
