Personnel & organization

SWOV offers a healthy research climate and an open and collegial working atmosphere. The researchers are from various academic backgrounds, such as physics, mathematics, psychology, sociology, mechanical engineering, social geography and civil engineering. Multidisciplinary teams work together to achieve the ultimate goal: prevent crashes, reduce injuries and save lives! The researchers are supported by dedicated colleagues in Operational Managemant and Communications.

On average, SWOV employed fewer people in 2018 than in 2017, around 2.58 FTE, due to some experienced members of staff leaving SWOV. In 2018, 13 employees left and 10 new employees were recruited. SWOV said goodbye to two iconic figures in 2018: Dr. Divera Twisk and Prof. Dr. Marjan Hagenzieker. Divera Twisk reached retirement age, but was asked to continue her career as a professor of Road Safety at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia. Marjan Hagenzieker accepted a senior research position at the Norwegian TOI. She continues to combine this with her professorship in Road Safety at Delft University of Technology.

On the reference date 31 December 2018, 56 employees had an employment at SWOV and they were assisted by trainees (in total 15 in 2018).

The employees at SWOV are represented by the SWOV works council.

Organization

Dr. Peter van der Knaap has been SWOV's Managing Director since 1 June 2013. Together with the Board of Supervisors (RvT) he is responsible for the strategy and position of SWOV and ensures that the organization has a solid financial basis.

To guarantee the quality of its research, SWOV uses the input of highly-qualified external experts as members of the Scientific Advisory Board (WAR) and the Program Advisory board (PAR).  SWOV invites experts who are active in various sectors in the field of traffic and road safety as members of these boards.

The organizational chart shows the organizational structure of SWOV on 31 December 2018, and the place in the organization and responsibilities of all SWOV employees.
