Samenvatting

A study was conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA's) National Center for Statistics and Analysis (NCSA) to determine the extent of underinflation and observe the tire condition in 12- and 15-passenger vans. This Research Note presents a summary of the findings in the following areas: background, sample design, data collection methodology, special equipment for data collection, analysis, results, and conclusion. The study found a very high percentage of large vans have significantly underinflated tires, a much larger percentage than passenger cars. This suggests a need for better van tire safety awareness. Various possible countermeasures to poor tire pressure are suggested.
