Samenvatting

The purpose was: (1) to provide the department with estimates of driver population characteristics for future planning and scheduling purposes. (2) to provide data on the california driving population for descriptive purposes and for providing normative data for use in comparative studies. And (3) to explore, through correlation and other statistical techniques, the interrelationship between variables, thus deriving clues to the causes and control of accidents. This first report of a nine part study is limited to the description of the methodology used in the sample selection and data gathering. The collected data is briefly described and the scope and sequencing of forthcoming reports is described.
