The National Child Restraint Use Survey was conducted in October/November, 1985, at 130 sites across Canada. A total of 12.166 children were observed in private automobiles stopped at red lights, to determine the type of restraint system used. About 46% of the children observed were seated in appropriate restraint systems for their age, proper use of these restraints was 75%. The overall result was that one-third of children under 16 travel safely restrained in motor vehicles.
