This report contains 1991 statistics for traffic fatalities in the United States. Highlights from the report are as follows: In 1991, 41,462 people lost their lives in motor vehicle traffic crashes, a decrease of 7% from 1990 and 19% from 1966. The number of fatalities per 100 million miles of travel in 1991 was 1.9, 65% lower than the rate for 1966. Fatalities per population were 37% lower in 1991 than in 1966, fatalities per licensed driver 51% lower, and fatalities per registered vehicle 60% lower.
