Samenvatting

Vehicle behaviour during braking in a turn is important for vehicle stability and controllability. Behaviour of a four wheel drive (4WD) vehicle is different from that of a two wheel drive (2WD) vehicle due to larger moment of inertia of driveline and restraint condition between front and rear axle. This paper discusses the differences in the behaviour of various 4WD systems during braking in a turn, based mainly on a theoretical analysis, and presents the results of a study made on the influence of vehicle configuration and driving conditions on vehicle behaviour.
