Samenvatting

Millimeter-wave radar is an important component for safe driving assistance systems in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). A compact 76GHz automotive millimeter-wave radar with a scanning function has been developed. The radar is of the Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) type. In order to attain both high performance and compactness and light weight, the transmitting and receiving antennas have been integrated into one antenna. To achieve a wider angle coverage, a high-speed scanning actuator has been incorporated. Another objective was to minimize the number of parts by means of MMICs (Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits) and analog and digital IC technology. A DSP (Digital Signal Processor) and software that can correctly recognize multiple targets was used. The radar's suitability for Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) by installing it in a test car have been positively evaluated. (A*)
