This paper describes research that has been developed at the University of Auckland to simulate the variation of skid resistance that occurs 'in-field'. The laboratory based method uses 'large' (approx 300mm diameter) chipseal surfacing samples. The paper discusses the equipment, methodology and the laboratory procedures developed for testing. This research was conducted as part of a Land Transport New Zealand (formerly Transfund NZ) research project in 2004/5. The paper gives example results carried out on a basalt aggregate commonly used in the Auckland Region of New Zealand.
