Samenvatting

In the past three years Transport Canada has managed four R&D and demonstration projects involving accessible taxis. These projects have provided important knowledge that can be very useful in the planning, design, and effective implementation of this form of transportation service in other communities in Canada, and elsewhere. Brief details are provided on cost, driver training, the type of ownership, and usage. This paper is intended to present some of the more important "lessons learned" in the course of managing these projects for Transport Canada. These lessons should be of interest to those involved in planning, regulating, and operating this form of service, training drivers, or designing and manufacturing accessible taxis.
