Samenvatting

Drivers who had provided information about their driving experience and accidents in a 1987/88 survey were asked to provide the same information in a repeat survey three years later (1990/91). A comparison of the data collected from the same drivers provided an opportunity to compare the reproducability of the reporting of mileage and accidents over these 2 periods, providing an indication of whether the techniques used to elicit information yield consistent and comparable results over time. Data for annual mileage, proportion of time spent on motorway driving and accident frequency were examined for differnt ages and sexes. Findings included a poor estimation of annual mileage and an accurate reporting of accident frequency. A period of 3 years is recommended for the recall of accidents.
