Accidents in Central and Eastern European Countries CEEC / Newly Independent States NIS countries through the years especially including the situation of children in road traffic.

In this paper the following Central and Eastern European Countries (CEECs) and the Newly Independent States (NIS) of the ex-Soviet Union are included: Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Ukraine. On the basis of EKG UN 95 data, a description is given of the safety state in the year 1993 and tendencies which appeared during the last few years including: (1) number of accidents; (2) persons killed and casualties; and (3) indicators with reference to population. A threat in the age groups with the following limits is characterised: below 6 years, 6-9 years, 10-14 years, 15-17 years, 18-20 years, 21-24 years, 25-64 years, and over 65 years. A threat to children up to 14 years subdivided into deaths and casualties is presented in detail. (A)
