Samenvatting

Delay is an excellent tool for evaluating the operation of signalised intersections. However, it is not easily determined. This paper examines two approaches for measuring delay - a time-space diagram and a queuing diagram - and explains various problems related to each. The paper concludes that, while delay cannot be precisely measured, it can be a useful engineering tool if it is calculated properly.
