Samenvatting

The NRMA-ACT Road Safety Trust has provided a grant to the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Department of Urban Services to develop a program to reduce the number of ACT young people killed and seriously injured in road accidents. The ACT, in common with other states of Australia and developed countries around the world, faces the problem of a significant over-representation of drivers aged 16 to 25 in traffic accidents. The program will aim to reduce young driver crash involvement by reducing the incidence of high risk driving behaviour. The objective is to ensure that attitudes and behaviours adopted in the learning phase will reduce the risk of accident involvement during the early years of driving. Stage 1 in the development of this program comprises the selection and development of the concepts on which the program is to be founded, including full specification of the content of the program and consultation with affected parties to ensure the program is widely accepted.
