Samenvatting

Most traffic accidents these days are caused by human error. Because of this it is necessary to come up with effective solutions to prevent accidents caused by a drop in the driver's level of alertness. A system was developed that estimates accurately a driver's level of alertness and issues an alarm when necessary. This time, the effective use of information on drivers' level of alertness, and how this can improve safety was researched. As a result of the study, two systems were developed. One is a system that adjusts the timing of a headway distance warning according to the driver's state of alertness. The other is a system that releases aroma when the driver's monotony is increasing, thus maintaining his/her alertness at an appropriate level. This paper describes these systems and their effects.
